How to safely sell my bike?

Oct 16, 2016

The ground work is done: your bike is nice and clean, pictures were taken, you crafted a good and straight forward description, and you ad is live on

Let's make sure to stay safe when selling your bike, and the experience of selling it brings you as much joy as you had owning it. Here are some tips how:

  • Be wary if someone offers you money without seeing the bike. Genuine buyer will want to see the bike first.
  • Always meet the buyer face-to-face, and at a safe place for both parts.
  • Never hand over the keys until payment has cleared. Bank transfer is one of the safest options, or if they want to pay cash, ask for it to be paid directly into your bank account.
  • Raise a receipt for the transaction. Add buyer and seller detail's, make and model, registration and chassis number, agreed price, payment method, date and time of the sale. Both parts should sign it and keep a copy each.
  • Fill up the appropriate fields of the registration document V5C, and post it as per DVLA instructions.

Now you are ready to find your next bike here on if you haven't done it yet!
